"Safeguarding that lives in practice, not just policy "
Lis Hoyte is a highly experienced safeguarding specialist, educator, and trainer with a particular focus on coercive control and hidden forms of abuse. Drawing on both professional expertise and lived experience, she works with organisations, leaders, and practitioners to strengthen understanding, build confidence, and embed safeguarding practices that truly protect and empower individuals.

Background

Lis Hoyte BA (Hons), MSc, is an accomplished educator, advocate, and specialist in coercive control awareness within educational settings. She brings a powerful combination of professional expertise and lived experience, drawing on nearly two decades of personal insight into coercive control alongside a strong background in frontline safeguarding. Lis has worked extensively as a secondary school teacher and youth support worker, including supporting young people in independent care settings. Throughout her career, she has been committed to raising awareness of hidden forms of abuse and strengthening safeguarding practices across education. She is a recognised expert in her field and a former member of the International Coercive Control Conference (ICCC), working with educators, safeguarding professionals, and young people to deepen understanding of coercive control and its impact.

Coaching & Consultancy Practice

Lis’s work focuses on supporting organisations and individuals to recognise, understand, and respond effectively to coercive control and related safeguarding risks. She partners with schools, colleges, and organisations to develop safer, more informed environments where early intervention is possible and where both staff and young people are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to act. Her work bridges the gap between policy and practice - ensuring safeguarding is not only understood but actively embedded into everyday behaviours and decision-making.

Coaching & Training Style

Lis delivers her work with authenticity, clarity, and impact. She combines evidence-based research with real-life case studies and lived experience, creating sessions that are both powerful and practical. Her approach is engaging and thought-provoking, enabling participants to see beyond surface behaviours and recognise the often subtle dynamics of coercive control. She creates safe but challenging spaces where difficult conversations can take place and where understanding leads to action.

What Lis Offers

Lis provides a range of coaching, training, and consultancy services designed to strengthen safeguarding awareness and practice. She delivers keynote speaking engagements for conferences, events, and INSET days, alongside CPD-accredited training programmes such as “Through the Lens of Coercive Control”, which explores safeguarding, exploitation, and abuse in depth. Lis supports organisations in developing, adapting, and reviewing safeguarding policies to ensure they are robust, relevant, and effective. She also offers coaching programmes for adults, as well as tailored workshops for staff, safeguarding leads (DSLs and DDSLs), and post-16 students. Her work ensures that organisations are not only compliant, but confident and capable in their safeguarding approach.

Coaching Approach & Credentials

Lis holds a BA (Hons) and MSc and brings both academic rigour and lived experience into her work. She has authored guidance booklets for the Department for Education, contributing to national resources addressing misogyny and violence against women and girls.
